While getting ready for a recent night hunt, I took my seat quite early in the comfortable saddle of a fixed climbing tree-stand, set up 8.5 m high on a tree 22 m from this feeder.
After arranging everything around me with the greatest care, attending to every small detail — everything one might need for a marathon night hunt;

– the electric mosquito repellent running and charging continuously
– the phone in night-clock mode, charging continuously, with the necessary apps

I waited in silence and savoured the chance for a "royal" glimpse into the secret life of the forest.
Still in daylight, with the utmost caution, a young doe arrived — looking even more undernourished than usual, judging by her deeply sunken flank.
Starting the hidden camera (Garmin Virb XE) mounted on a nearby trunk and kept at the ready, from the stand, I managed to capture this footage.
For moments like these I find it worth sitting through dozens of idle, uneventful hours — motionless, without a sound, in perfect silence, watching the forest from up at canopy height.
