2 days ago there was a brief spell of human activity here, when half a sack of acorns was brought to this feeder, as well as to the clearly visible washed-out gully depression also 25m from the stand.
The sows are still cautious, distrustful, and still consider this feeder a high-risk spot.
Because of this, here too they let the piglets go ahead, while they themselves keep watch alertly from the tall undergrowth, from dense cover, around the feeder.
And even so, they don’t linger more than a few minutes.
Hunting won’t be easy at this spot either.
Although the game already moves here during the day, no pattern at all can be observed as to where or when.
Taken to the extreme, only a 24-48-hour stand hunt has any real chance of the sounder definitely coming through.
And then, there’s still the wind to reckon with.
Even the nearly 8m height doesn’t help if the sows lead the piglets to the feeder with an extremely cautious, wide detour.
During the most recent hunt they arrived after 2 hours from the patch of forest behind the stand, and then one of the sows, with a deep grunt, moved them on again.
