I’m László Bakay, a bowhunter

Bowhunter Moments isn’t a professional website, nor a collection of trophies. It’s more of a diary about how I experience those few days each month when I leave everyday life behind and return to the forests of Inner Somogy (Belső-Somogy).

Many people equate hunting with the kill. For me it is far more than that. I spend most of my time not with a bow in my hands, but caring for the land: I build salt licks, make automatic feeders, create watering places, keep wallows in order, clear stalking paths, analyse trail-camera footage, and try to understand a world in which, at these times, I am only a guest.

I like to make things that serve the forest’s natural community of life for a long time. I build most of the installations with my own hands, often from wood or other natural materials found on the land — not because it is cheaper, but because it feels good to create something that fits into the forest and is genuinely useful.

I believe that hunting carries a serious responsibility. If we take something from nature, it is worth giving something back first. That is why the continuous care of the game, the improvement of the habitat, and being present with the least possible disturbance matter so much to me. Often a well-made watering trough, a new wallow, or a familiar stag appearing on a trail-camera clip brings me just as much joy as the hunt itself.

Bowhunter Moments doesn’t try to convince anyone of anything. It simply shows what I see and experience. It will hold successful and less successful weekends, home-made solutions and gear, thoughts on ethical hunting, trail-camera observations, and every small story that, for me, is part of the forest.
